Letter, 1783 July 25 (Charleston, S.C.), to James Crosland (Yorkshire, England)

Letter of Thomas Radcliffe, Jr., with family news and conveys instructions from Radcliffe's father to allow the Armitages to have the management of his affairs in [the West Riding? of] Yorkshire. Radcliffe also discusses the loss of letters between South Carolina and England but indicates the situation should improve since the British had evacuated Charleston. He instructs Crosland to send his letters to the "Carolina Coffee house where the letter Bags of all Vessalls for this place is keapt & they will be forwarded." The Carolina Coffee House in the City of London served as a point of contact for letters and meetings for generations of South Carolinians. Radcliffe addressed his letter to James Crosland, Esq., at the location "supposed near Huddersfield, Yorkshire."
